With a bit of OBS skill, Some ChatGPT coding and giving some money to the lovely folks at TheSpaceDevs, here it is. SpaCeeFax.

What’s a ‘CeeFax’?#

YOU DONT KNOW?!?!?! I don’t blame you, I’m of the generation who just about remembers it, but only just. It was a BBC service that was shut down in 2012. It was basically… a digital news paper maybe. There is a great video by Adam Martyn about it “A Brief History - Ceefax”.

Why SpaCeeFax?#

It’s a funny play on words.. Oh why the idea? Well I was thinking, What is the worst way to display info for space nerds like me. I think I have built it.

It’s cheesy, its nerdy, its geeky and its pretty useless!

How does it work?#

Well my coding is awful so I had to ask ChatGPT to help quite a bit. It’s pulling data every 15 minutes from a lovely API by TheSpaceDevs. I pay the £6 or so to have 45 requests an hour (i think?) but I have it only update every 5 minutes to avoid it sucking up all their bandwidth. It’s then embedded in a browser source in OBS and streamed out! In 576P (I wanted interlaced but I’m not sure that would work well.).

There is a lot I need to improve on, I built it literally 15 minutes before hitting the stream button!

I currently have it streaming to the YouTube channel via a VM… It’s a little janky but it works! (my motto).
